Solar flares

Solar flares (mainly X-flares) are the origin of strong disturbances in the ionosphere, in particular, in the Total Electron Content.

The page presents a plot of the daily number of M- and X-flares as observed by NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/).
